Gearbox Games has announced the first-person multiplayer shooter Battleborn for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
The game, revealed in Game Informer, is a new IP currently described as an “intergalactic first-person battle arena,” that offers “an exciting blend of cooperative and competitive multiplayer gameplay.” So a first-person shootie MOBA.
According to Game Informer, the game will feature “a huge cast of characters, rivaling factions, and Gearbox’s signature sense of humor,” and “rival players hunt one another in lush jungles and arid deserts while robotic NPC minions wage an ongoing tug-of-war,”
“Players on a level playing field at the beginning of each match, progressing along a streamlined skill path up to level 20 with customizable abilities that unlock a variety of different play styles.”
Gearbox is said to add a “tremendous rogue’s gallery” of playable characters, which look and control differently, from what you’d normally expect a first-person game. As such we can expect immortal samurai or minigun wielding giants, “battling over the last star in the cosmos.”
Since each character controls uniquely, that means you can expect the space-marine to feel like “he’s been ripped from any modern shooter,” whilst the “spry elven huntress leaps far above other players’ heads and rains down a volley of deadly arrows, evoking memories of high fantasy heroes.”
"If Borderlands 2 is a shooter-looter, Battleborn is a hero-shooter," Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said in a statement statement.
"As a genre-fused, hobby-grade, co-operative and competitive FPS exploding with eye-popping style and an imaginative universe, Battleborn is the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created."
Battleborn is slated to be released until the end of Take-Two’s fiscal year of 2016, which ends March 31, 2016.
