Bungie has revealed a digital upgrade plan, which offers the chance for fans picking the game up on PS3 and Xbox 360 to upgrade to a PS4 and Xbox One digital copy for free.
This program is available until January 15, 2015 for anybody who purchases the Guardian Edition or Expansion Pass on the Xbox 360 marketplace or PS3 Store, allowing players to upgrade to a digital copy on Xbox One or PS4 for free. This program is put in place so that if you'd buy a copy of Destiny this week, and upgrade to a new console at Christmas, you can get the new game version as well.
The upgrade only works to a next-gen copy in the same console family, which means you won't be able to move from Xbox 360 to PS4, for example. Player progress, stats and chracters are stored online, and are automatically shared between console generations. You will also be able to retain both licenses for both the previous-gen and current-gen platforms. You can read more about it on Bungie's official site.
Destiny's officially slated for launch at midnight tonight, with early adopters already receiving copies. The game servers are now live.
