Sony has announced a new official gaming headset, the Silver Wired Headset for PlayStation 3 and PS4.
Slated for release this fall, the headset features 7.1 virtual surround, and is compatible with the free headset Companion app (available on the PS Store), which allows you to use custom game-specific sound profiles created by developers. The cans come with a retractable boom mic for voice-chat, cloth ear-cushions, and in-line volume and mic controls.
It also uses a 3.5mm jack for use with the Vita and other audio devices.
The company is also preparing an “extremely limited” Glacier White Stereo Headset, a variant of the $100 Gold headset, which will be available at retail for a “short time.” While the supplies last. The headset’s release matches that of the exclusive Glacier White PS4 Destiny bundle, priced at $450.
Finally, the company has announced that users of Sony’s official headsets, including the Pulse Elite headset, will be able to download a Destiny specific audio mode, available on the companion app for PS4 and PS3 starting tomorrow. “Enjoy the sounds of the Destiny universe the way Bungie intended," a post on the official PlayStation Blog reads.
