It seems that a substantial expansion-pack for the upcoming role-playing game Pillars of Eternity is already in the works.
Pillars of Eternity, the old-school RPG comes out next week, and developer Obsidian is currently putting the finishing touches before its release. Well, the game seems to support expansion content, as one is already in development.
During a Pillars of Eternity Reddit AMA, Obsidian's Adam Brennecke revealed what they have in store for the game after it has shipped. "We're looking at doing an expansion about the same size (are wise) of Tels of the Sword Coast" he wrote on Reddit, making several refferences to Baldur's Gate expansion-pack.
"I won't reveal much about it since it's early in development, but we've already have a small team working on areas and environments while the rest of the team focus on shipping the game. We will announcing more things about it over the next few months."
Tales of the Sword Coast was an expansion pack for the first Baldur's Gate. it added about 20-additional hours of content, with new dungeons, areas and a standalone story.
Obsidian Entertainment went to Kickstarter to raise funds for Pillars of Eternity. It originally asked for $1.1 million, and earned about $4 million. The developer has said it plans to work on a sequel following the release of expansion-pack content, and will consider using Kickstarter for funding once again.
