Brainwavz AP001 portable AMP review - Drop the bass

  • Published in AMP & DAC reviews

Features

There are a number of added features AP001 sports, despite its design being completely switchless. First of all, it has to recognize an audio signal to turn on. When the signal stops, it automatically goes into shut-off mode.

In theory its a great idea, and for the most part it works as intended, but the sensors aren'tm sensitive enough. When using it on a powered-source like a laptop or PC, it recognized the signal and turned-on instantly. Once plugged out, it turned-off just as quickly. When used alongside a smartphone, my HTC 510 and Galaxy S4, it detected the signal and turned on, but it didn't turn off just as fast. In fact, I had to always plug-it in and plug out again (sometimes more than once).
