Payday developer Overkill Software announced its preparations for a co-op first-person shooter based on The Walking Dead franchise. Now, the game has been confirmed for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The news has been confirmed by Overkill's parent company Starbreeze Studios. 505 Games will publish the title, similarly to the publishing deal of Starbreeze's Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons. The company will offer Starbreeze a $10 million licensing fee and royalties on console sales.
"505 Games partner with us on the console publishing for 'Overkill's The Walking Dead' will streamline the distribution and marketing of the title in the traditional space and on the digital console marketplace," said Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson Klint. "Having worked together before on the successful Payday-franchise, we are certain this will be a fruitful collaboration."
According to the publisher, Overkill's The Walking Dead "will deliver a completely new co-op experience" to the Walking Dead Universe, exploring new characters and story-lines. The game is being made with The Walking Dead creator's Robert Kirkman blessing, and will follow the comic's canon and not the TV show's.
The game is also seen as the result of a new "long-term" partnership between Starbreeze and Kirkman's Skybound Interactive company. Said partnership will extend "into the next decade" and will set the beggining of a new era for Starbreeze, the publisher has said.
The comic-book inspired shooter is expected to be released sometime next year.
