Acer S277HKwmidpp monitor review - Proper 4K polish

As good UHD displays become increasingly ubiquitous, 4K is quickly turning into the new high-def standard. Acer is one of the strongest proponents on the market, with wildly different models, for professionals and gamers alike. One such offering is S277HKwmidpp, a sleek, minimalistic 27 inch monitor.

S277HKwmidpp is a sleek, heavily polished monitor with a thin bezel and a brushed aluminum look. It’s a very workplace looking device, and considering what’s under the hood, that’s not entirely surprising.

At first glance, its design might look unconventional, though in all actuality, it follows the same finish and style of all previous S-series monitors. While the build might be similar, the specs and features are unique to the model. The 68.58cm (27-inch) display promises 4K2K (3840x2160) resolution, DTS surround sound, Acer eye protect and 100% sRGB color space for image editing and CAD applications. On paper, this is an excellent workflow offering, and considering specs, there are few similarly priced models matching its performance.

The IPS panel, WLED backlit display offers UHD via HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort 1.2 at a refresh rate of 60Hz. Most 4K monitors feature similar connectivity options, but S277HKwmidpp also comes with DVI connector, despite it not supporting 4K (at 60Hz). What ACER is trying to do is offer as many options to the end user as possible, and one cannot fault them for that. Is the whole package deal worth the somewhat steep asking price?

It remains to be seen. On paper, the specifications and extensive feature list might be impressive, but it’s time to try them out, and check if they actually come through. I will say this though, if Acer manages to deliver on its promises, the S277HK might be one of the best 4K offerings on the market today.

Let’s take a look, shall we?
