Be Quiet! Silent Base 800 Window case review - Clear silence

be Quiet!, a company that has built its presence on silent components like power supplies, coolers and fans - has expanded its line-up last year with the Silent Base 800 enclosure. Now, a year later - they updated the model with a windowed version.

If you're familiar with be quiet!, you should know they're usually focused on creating components designed for optimum performance while being silent. This was the purpose of the Silent Base 800, a somewhat large chassis that was under development for about 12 months - with the manufacturer working on its design to ensure it offers users plenty of space for component installation, and still feature "the best cooling, at very low noise-levels."

While I didn't have a chance to look around the original, I recently got my hands on the updated version featuring a double-glazed polycarbonate window, released earlier this year.

The focus for silent performance has been gaining traction in the past few years. Fractal Design's Define series is dedicated to noise isolation, as is Nanoxia's Deep Silence or Coolermaster's Silencio. The Silent Base 800 faced strong competitors upon release - many a company that worked on silent cases for several years. While the enclosure might be be quiet!'s first attempt at the case market - it's clearly not their first work with quiet devices, quite the contrary. As the name suggests, pretty much everything they produce is designed not to be heard while in use.

From the looks of it, and from the spec rundown - Silent Base 800 isn't far off. It's equipped with 'Silent Wings' type fans with rubber dampeners, dust filters, sound isolating foam, even rubber handles to be used with mechanical drives so that they don't make a fuss. In essence, this looks like on of the better offerings on the market - maybe even one of the most silent. Let's take a closer look, shall we?
