John Romero, the co-founder of ID Software and one of the creators of such classic titles like Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, wants to return to the first-person shooter genre.
Speaking on the Super Joystick Podcast, Romero said he’s currently working on several games, one being published by the mobile-studio Loot Drop, but the other set to be released under Romero Games. Romero also mentioned “I haven’t made a shooter since 2000. So I’m basically start to work on another one.”
There’s no info about the game, as of yet, except the aforementioned detail that it’s to be published by Romero Games, and not Loot Drop.
Founded in 2010, with partner Brenda Romero, Loot Drop has been a studio dedicated to social and mobile titles, working with publishers like Ubisoft, Electronic Arts and Zynga.
John Romero co-founded ID Software, and has co-created multiple titles including Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake. He later went on to develop one of the major commercial failures of videogame industry in the form of Daikatana.
