French developer Dontnod that previously released Life is Strange and Remember Me, has detailed its upcoming game, Vampyr, an Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
Vampyr was revealed back in January, when the concept was first introduced. The game is set in Early 20th Century Britain, after the First World War, in a world still thrown in turmoul by the Spanish Flu. Players will take the role of Jonathan E. Reid, a military surgeon who becomes a vampire when he returns home from the war. He's going to have find a way to reconcile his commitment to his craft with drinking the blood of other human beings.
Players will be invited to explore an early 20th Century London, accept missions, and decide who to feed on, and in what circumstance.
According to the details announced today, you can feed on literally anyone in the game, from random NPCs to quest-givers. "Absolutely all characters in the game are potential victims of your vampiric lust. Carefully study the habits of your next victim, his or her relationships with other characters, and set up your strategy to feed, unnoticed: seduce them, change their daily habits, or make sure they end up alone in a dark street." The developer also promises that said characters are still essentiall to the way the world unfolds. "Be careful who you choose to hunt, as they will be gone forever, and their death will impact in a meaningful way the world that surrounds you."
You won't be able to skip on feeding either, human blood being a necessity to level-up, and progress. The combat will include melee, shooting, and supernatural vampiric abilities, and all of them will be essentiall when fighting other vampiric creatures, hunters or other threats. As expected, a crafting system will also be implemented allowing players to create new items from materials looted from defeated enemies.
The game is slated for release sometime in 2017, with Focus Home Interactive publishing it. A website for it is up, though for the moment there's only a placeholder, with only a promise of a full website coming soon. Below you will find the concept teaser, though it doesn't really say much about the game.
